The China Report (at DrBen.Net)
DrBen.Net, Beijing & China Report :

The China Report was First Established in October 2002.
Initially merely a personal website, the site was created with the intention of filling in some much needed Internet information on the City of Beijing, the Capital of China.
At the Time, virtually no detailed information was available through the Internet on any destinations in China and our First Target City, the City of Beijing. There was hardly any background information on the Hotels on offer through Booking Sites, no guide to the (Beijing) City Transportation System to speak of, hardly any useful Maps needed to successfully navigate around the City and Monuments, and negligible information on the History and Architecture of the main Landmarks & Monuments of which Beijing and China are so rich. As an illustration one might consider this: In 2002 an estimated 95% of Businesses and Tourist Ventures in Beijing went without

Led by ardent China Buff and Chinese Culture Enthusiast Ben Nijhoff (a.k.a. DrBen) from The Netherlands, this website accepted the challenge of filling in the above described large Internet information void, initially setting to work under the domain name The Beijing Report.com. The Beijing Report published its information based on Ben Nijhoff's personal knowledge of Beijing and other Cities of China and complemented by the many 1000's of Photos taken by Ben Nijhoff on his walks through Beijing and his Journeys through China.

DrBen.Net and The China Report in 2008 :

Currently, The China Report is the main product of DrBen.Net Media Company, a company registered and based in The Netherlands.

Main Mission of The China Report is to cover all of the Main Landmarks, Monuments, Scenic Spots, related History and Historic Area's of the Huge Country of The Peoples Republic of China. To achieve this the website has been developed in several select stages, of which the next will be initiated starting in Januari of 2009 AD.

In the year 2008 this has brought us up to an estimated 200 Thousand Visitors this Year and over 450 Thousand Page Views. Both drastic increases over the year 2007.

2002 to 2005 - The Beijing Report :

The Beijing Report existed independently from 2002 to the end of 2005, offering in a rough form a growing amount of Maps of Beijing and Beijing City Province combined with 1000's of Photos displaying the actual on-the-ground situations in the City and even providing a limited number of General Introductions to the Landmarks of the City of Beijing and outlying Area's in the City Province. Due to the enormity of the task involved, these were only the initial stages, in which a a number of skeleton "Virtual Cities" were created. Much remained unfinished.

Although presented only in a rough form and often with missing or still incomplete accompanying texts, viewers & visitors to the The Beijing Report website greeted the published information combined with maps and photos, with enthusiasm and often gratitude. Many Letters of thanks came in from various countries around the world describing the practical usefulness of the (limited) publications already available. Some were elated at the sheer joy of surfing the "Virtual City of Beijing", eagerly viewing the pages and photos while reliving memories of their holidays and often prolonged stay and work in that City. Several visitors became regulars, if not Fans, occasionally complementing DrBen for his unique representation of Beijing and China. Many responders were urging DrBen to continue his ambitious project to describe Beijing as a City, and were advising him, if it was at all possible, to convert it into a commercial enterprise. Visitor numbers rose steadily each year.
It seemed as if the information published through The Beijing Report and the new The Xian Report was exactly what many needed and had been looking for. The integrated approach of combining history and backgrounds to various places, with accurate maps, as well as step by step directions and tips based on personal experience seemed to fill a need for a large variety of international travelers. All this was an encouragement to proceed on the path taken, and where possible expand on efforts.

In 2006 many important changes were made to this website and DrBen's future plans.
First of all, in the beginning of 2006 DrBen was able to acquire the domain name www.ChinaReport.com.
Not only did this new domain name allow DrBen a wider range of travels and subjects, it was further the perfect basis from which to move on and integrate the various Chinese Cities visited and photographed into a larger concept.
The resulting new website effectively saw the integration of The Beijing Report and The Xian Report into a new website with an even larger ambition named The China Report.

The succeeding period saw the founding of DrBen.Net the Internet Media Company, a legal body involved with Import, Export, and Worldwide Distribution of Chinese Products (mainly Books and DVD's) as well as the production of Online Guides to Chinese Cities, published as products of the overall Company DrBen.Net. This is largely the situation as it remains today (Nov.2008).

In addition, another main focus subject of The China Report photography and publishing will be path of The Great Wall Wall of China through the Northern Chinese Provinces.
The Great Wall of China is the number one search term on the Internet searched for in relation to the country of China (PRC) and therefor of main interest to our future commercial activities.
